South Portland and Yellow Ribbons Supporting Troops
Some residents of South Portland are not fully complying with the South Portland city officials who want them to remove the yellow ribbons displayed to support the troops fighting overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is causing consternation to others in the town who believe that the yellow ribbons should be taken down. Read more of this controversy in the Boston Globe article (August 20, 2007) entitled "Town struggles over symbol - Debate on yellow ribbons persists after removal". South Portland recently lost two soldiers who were killed in action in March 2007 - Jason Swiger and Angel Rosa.
