Kennebec County Dispatch Services to End in January 2008
Kennebec County will end its emergency dispatch services on January 31, 2008. The 21 communities now serviced by Kennebec County will need to buy dispatch services from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Regional Communications Center in Augusta. There are many critics who believe that a centralized dispatch service with actually result in a longer reaction time of emergency services and less familiarity with local areas by the dispatchers. For more on this subject see the Kennebec Journal news posting of November 3, 2007 entitled "Dispatch Deadline: Emergency center, used by 21 communities, closing Jan. 31".
