Travelers Body Parts Exposed During Airport Scanning

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is proceeding with the fielding of body scanners that can see through travelers clothes. Many critics are complaining that airport passengers privacy is being sacrificed in the interests of airport security. If you have any sense of privacy then you will loose it when you go through one of these scanners. They are very revealing. As a guy, I am not that concerned about it. While in the service and playing football I have had many communal showers with other men - no big deal! So someone sees I am carrying twenty extra pounds around the waist and that I have a furniture problem - my chest has dropped into my drawers. But I cringe at the thought of some TSA employee viewing my wife's or daughter's private areas. As a security professional I think it is a step too far. What's wrong with "profiling"? I think the Israelis have airport security right. Read a recent article about the subject. See "U.S. Triples Scanners That See Under Flier's Clothes", Bloomberg.com, July 15, 2008.
