Lightweight Body Armor for Afghanistan Troops
U.S. Army troops in Afghanistan will soon be receiving a trial test issue of lightweight body armor. $3 million of the new body armor will be shipped to Afghanistan. The lighter body armor will give the troops greater mobility in their fight against Afghan insurgents who carry very little equipment into battle, are familiar with the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan and who can move much faster than U.S. infantry on foot. The insurgents faster movement allows them to maneuver quicker and more effectively against U.S. troops who are on foot carrying upwards to 100 pounds of equipment.
