"No Weapons for Mariners" Says International Maritime Organization (IMO)
The International Maritime Organization's Maritime Safety Committee has stated that mariners are civilians and should not carry weapons to protect themselves, ship cargo, or merchant ships. The organization stated that the carrying of weapons by untrained civilians would constitute a hazard to the crew, ship's cargo (inflammable liquids), and cause pirates to escalate their violence towards ship's crews.
