Maine Prison Budget Cuts - An Editorial

Maine, along with everyone else, is suffering from a lack of funds to pay for goods and services. This has prompted a number of budget cuts to make up for the shortfall in tax revenue. The prisons are no exceptions and they are struggling with less money than needed. The Portland Press Herald has published an editorial (July 31, 2009) advocating the cutting of costs by implementing shorter sentences or a return of parole to save costs. I don't agree; taking criminals off the streets and KEEPING THEM OFF THE STREETS is a cost-saving measure in the long run.
