Tasers Endorsed by Portland City Council for Portland, Maine Police Department

The Portland, Maine City Council has voted to endorse the use of Tasers by members of the Portland Police Department.  (See a news article on this topic).  The chief of police wants every one of his officer's to carry one.  Tasers are considered to be non-lethal (although deaths do occur occassionally) and are preferred over the use of batons, guns, pepper spray and other means of restraint.
