Maine Legislature May Prohibit Cameras to Record License Plates

The Maine legislature is about to consider passing a bill that would allow police to take a photo of your license plate for no apparent reason and run it through the FBI National Crime Information Center.
"There is a bill before the Maine Legislature to prohibit police departments from using cameras and computers to automatically scan license plates of vehicles that cruisers pass by while on routine patrol.  The photos are downloaded into a laptop in the cruiser and then sent to the FBI National Crime Information Center to see if there are any outstanding warrants on the person to whom the car is registered (not necessarily the person driving)."
