Maine Emergency Responders Must Change From Wide Band to Narrow Band Communications by 2013

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has mandated that emergency workers must switch from wide band to narrow band by 2013.  This is an effort to provide more airspace for radio traffic and improve communications.  It will, however, be a costly switch for cash-strapped communities.  Read more in "Radio frequency changeover to be costly for some towns", Bangor Daily News, February 27, 2010.
