Monitors from Caring Unlimited Track Domestic Violence Court Cases in Maine

Monitors from Caring Unlimited are observing court proceedings in Maine that deal with domestic violence.  Over the past several months the monitors have found that judges pass out different sentences for the same type of crimes.  In addition, they have found some procedures put the victim at a disadvantage (such as repeated postponements).  Caring Unlimited issued a report entitled Court Monitoring Project Report (Acrobat Adobe PDF file) on March 1, 2010 that makes 12 recommendations for improvement.  Read more on this topic in the news article "Monitors report on domestic violence", Maine Today, March 18, 2010.  Click here for more information about domestic violence in Maine.
