Motorcycle Deaths in Maine: Police Fear Increase

Last year (2009) saw 22 deaths attributed to motorcycles in the state of Maine.  This was an increase of 4 deaths from 18 in 2008.  Safety offiicials are concerned that the increase in deaths may continue.  Officials suggest that those riders who have not operated a motorcycle do some practice first before taking the bike out on the road.  They also caution that people should operate a bike that is sized to fit them; too big of a bike could cause problems as they are hard to control.  In 2009, 17 of the 22 fatalities were not wearing helmets.  Source of info:  "Early motorcycle season concerns police", Bangor Daily News, April 27, 2010.
