Full-Body Scanners: Coming To an Airport Near You Whether You Want Them Or Not!

Full-body scanners are becoming more and more prevalent in airports.  I was catching a plane in Jacksonville, Florida two months ago and was instructed to go through the body-scanner.  I refused and asked for the pat down (I have some medical reasons and a sense of modesty).  The TSA employee was quite upset and she asked if I was sure I didn't want to go through the scanner.  She seemed quite upset with me but I stood my ground and endured the quite-thorough pat-down from a "male assist" TSA employee.  I have been in the security profession for over 24 years so it isn't like I am an anti-security nut.  I just don't like to  be exposed to any radiation that I don't need (I fly every week!).  One month ago I was going through the same airport and I noticed there were two different security lanes.  One had the body scanner and the other didn't.  I chose the security lane without - easier than arguing with the TSA lady!  Read more about full-body scanners in "Full-Body Security Scanners: Coming Soon to an Airport Near You", AOL News, July 22, 2010.
