Deaths from Traffic Accidents Lowest in 60 Years
Remarkable progress has been made in the reduction of deaths due to traffic accidents. In 2000 deaths were at the 41, 945 mark and at the end of 2009 deaths were at 33,808. The reduction in deaths is due to increase emphasis on safety programs, crack downs on drunk driving, and safe roads. Of concern is the increase in distracted driving due to the proliferation of cell phones and text messaging devices.
