Maine's School Policy Requiring Students to Provide Social Security Numbers Meeting Resistance
Maine schools are resisting a new state law requiring schools to collect student social security numbers. The two big concerns with the law include privacy issues and identity theft. The Portland, Maine school committee recently passed a resolution " . . . asking state to find another way to track the progress of students after they graduate, rather than asking for their social security numbers . . .
