Reports Say That Illegal Immigration Falls Sharply Last Several Years

"Border security efforts were a significant factor in a sharp decrease in the annual inflow of illegal immigrants in the latter half of the past decade as estimated by the Pew Hispanic Center, the Homeland Security Department (DHS) claimed Wednesday.

The Pew Hispanic Center Wednesday released a report, US Unauthorized Immigration Flows Are Down Sharply Since Mid-Decade, concluding that the annual inflow of unauthorized immigrants into the United States dropped by nearly two-thirds in the period of March 2007 to March 2009 as compared to March 2000 to March 2005.

Still, the size of the US illegal immigrant population grew by about a third from 2000-2009, the report said."
